Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Another hilarious mystery featuring penniless aristocrat Lady Georgie, “a feisty new heroine to delight a legion of Anglophile readers” (Jacqueline Winspear).

The Queen of England has concocted a plan in which Georgie is to entertain a Bavarian princess— and conveniently place her in the playboy Prince’s path, in the hopes that he might finally marry.

But queens never take money into account. Georgie has very little, which is why she moonlights as a maid-in-disguise. She must draw up plans: clean house to make it look like a palace; have Granddad and her neighbor pretend to be the domestic staff; un-teach Princess Hanni the English she’s culled from American gangster movies; cure said Princess of her embarrassing shoplifting habit; and keep an eye on her at parties. Then there’s the worrying matter of the body in the bookshop and Hanni’s unwitting involvement with the Communist Party. It’s enough to drive a girl crazy...

Don't be fooled by the cover or plot summary. The main character sounds interesting and might be in another book, but in this one the writing is choppy and the character development zero-dimensional. I suspect that in the trend to make 10 or 15 books in a series, this heroine and setting have suffered greatly. But profit is king, not the reader experience. I know it's hard to find good books nowadays, but keep looking. This is not worth your time.

I enjoyed learning more about Georgie this go around. She had her hands full with the Princess and trying to figure out what Darcy was up to as well. I will be looking forward to book 3.

The Queen of England invites Lady Georgina Rannoch to tea. The Queen wants Lady Georgina to chaperone a young Bavarian princess with the hopes of setting her up with the Prince of Wales. The Queen's son is enamored with an unsuitable American widow and Her Highness will not tolerate the arrangement. Georgina, who is 34th in line for the throne, willingly accepts the assignment but has to improvise to provide the comforts of wealth to her house guest. The fact is Georgina is impoverished and cleans houses in disguise to support herself. The Bavarian princess turns out to have an American accent from watching gangster movies and a vocabulary to boot and likes to shoplift! Georgina has her hands full as she keeps the princess out of harm's way, solves murders and develops a handsome love interest. This story will have you laughing out loud.

A Royal Pain is the second mystery staring Lady Georgiana {Georgie to her friends} Rannoch and her struggle to survive being close to the aristocratic top of the ladder, yet being more in the mix with the up and coming middle class. This series is enjoyable because of its witty heroine and her ability to solve mysteries and save the monarchy in spite of herself. A great read for those who enjoy English mysteries with sassy heroines.

And if you like female English detectives, I recommend starting the series by Jacqueline Winspear, starring Maisie Dobbs.

fun sequel to the first in the series

Again, the author gives us a delightful mystery with the star Lady Georgiana. She is given the task of watching a Bavarian princess that HM hopes will tempt her son away from that American. I love Georgie's resourcefulness using her grandpa and neighbor for servants in a pinch.
The twist in the end is unexpected and well done. Again, Darcy saves the day.
All in all, a good read.
