Process, Person, Presence: A Theology for Today's Believers

by Raymond Parr
Product Group: Book
ISBN: 0883472635
Binding/Media: Paperback - 240 pages
Condition: Good
Comments: Ever want to know what the Catholic version of process theology popular in the latter decades of the 20th century was like? This is the book for you. Trade paperback from The Thomas More Press (1990), this is Process, Person, Presence: A Theology for Today's Believers by Raymond A. Parr. The book is chipped around the edges and spine, and the edges have some water stains and foxing. The pages are clean. This is a scary book for me to browse again, because it represented state of the art Catholic theology when I purchased it 20 years ago. While I cannot diss it because I have not read it in years, it is theology that seems determined not to express traditional Catholic themes in any way other than in a revisionist manner. Example, from the chapter Faith and Culture: "Our first task and responsibility in the process of estblishing a new theology is to indicate and demonstrate the fallacies and failings of the old or traditional theology and then to assume the burden of proof or credibility for the new premises proposed. The first failure of the old theology is the arrogant assumption of ontology, the assumption of the adequacy for the universal categoeis, that is, that these categories can and do account for all of reality, including God. If these categories are adequare, they are also mutually exclusive, and in them the whole cosmos and human person is divided and separated by an irreconcilable conflict." This book could be an eye-opener for today's younger Catholics in seeing how the boomers who hold power in today's Church formed their theological thinking. « if ( document.getElementById ) { document.writeln('Show less'); }

The Asian Jesus

Condition: New
Comments: Trade paperback from Orbis Books (2006), this is The Asian Jesus by Michael Amaladoss. Peter C. Phan writes of Amaladoss' book: Have you ever imagined Jesus as the guru, the satyagrahi, the avatar, and even the dancer? With these and other images of Jesus, Michael Amaladoss helps us rediscover the Asian roots of Jesus who was born, preached, and died in Asia. By their strangeness these images jolt our imagination from its dogmatic slumber and awaken it to the richness and diversity of our Christological heritage.
