This was one in a series of Hell books. An amusing fantasy framework. But the problem in this book and the rest of the series is that things never really go anywhere. Both Morris and Drake write competently here. The combat scenes are well told. However, by the end of the book, if you step back, you realise that there wasn't much present. Wheels spinning loose.
The series eventually petered out by around 1990, for what may have been basically this reason.
