Comments: New York: Arthur Murray, 1938. Slim, softcover stapled volume is just 50 pages, shows through instructions and photographs (including numbered footprints) how to dance the Arthur Murray way. Illustrated w/photographs & drawings. Good condition; edges are a little chipped with creasing at top right corner, an open tear at bottom spine and a closed tear at bottom edge. Written on pg. 1: "How these lessons can make you popular"; inside & outside back covers contain advertisement for Philip Morris cigarettes, with the Philip Morris boy in red and black uniform and the tag line, "Call for Philip Morris." Dances covered are Fox Trot (including Princeton & Walk-Away variations), the Collegiate Dip, the Waltz, The Biltmore, The Tango, The Rhumba, and The Shag. A real time-piece for the late 30's, but also it look surprisingly useful (to me, a non-dancer, that is).

Comments: This is a 1st Edition hardback copy, no dj, of Arch Ward's hard-to-find memoir of Notre Dame football coach Frank Leahy and his days with The Fighting Irish. The book has an interesting feature, it is inscribed and signed not by the author nor Frank Leahy himself, but I believe it may be a personal copy from one of Leahy's relations to another. The inscription, on the inside front cover, in pen, reads :(Rev.) James Leahy wishes James Eugene Michael Leahy a Merry Christmas 1944." I have been unable to track down the geneology for Frank Leahy but it's a decent guess that this was a Christmas gift from one family member to another the year the book came out. This copy has a lot of wear on the cloth cover -- some fraying at top and bottom spine, all four corners are bumped and two are frayed also. Both inside covers are sunned and the pages are age-darkened. There is an old price tag on the front cover. The pages are clean, the binding tight.
